| Tabl baladi (Egyptian drum) in Sharqia, Egypt The son of the noted zamr (زمر) oboe player Mr. Abdelhamid demonstrates the tabl baladi (طبل بلد 10;), a folk drum played with two sticks, which is used to accompany the zamr. Filmed by the Egyptian-born American composer and ethnomusicologist Halim El-Dabh in June 1987 in a town near Zagazig, Sharqia, Egypt, in the Nile Delta of Lower Egypt. Similar instruments are found in Turkey, the Balkans, Greece, and several Central Asian countries, always played in tandem with oboes. |
